ISP: 1 killed, 4 injured in I-57 crash

UNION COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - One person has died and four are injured after a crash on Interstate 57 Wednesday afternoon shortly before 3.

Union County Deputy Coroner Phil Hileman says 56-year-old James Smith of Anna was pronounced dead at the scene.  He was the second passenger in the pick-up truck. Family has been notified.

According to Illinois State Police Trooper Harry Matthew, the Camaro rear-ended a cattle trailer at mile marker 38.  The truck attached to the trailer lost control, disengaged and ended up in the median.  The trail came to rest in the southbound lane.  The Camaro also ended up in the southbound lane.

The driver of the Camaro was Daniel J. Bible, 27, of Buncombe.  His passenger was a 3-year-old girl.  Both were taken to a Heartland Regional Medical Center with non life threatening injuries.

The driver of the truck was Jack D. Roach Jr., 50, of Anna.  He sustained serious injuries and was taken to Heartland Regional Medical Center.

The truck driver had two passengers on board.  Smith was killed in the crash.  Jack D. Roach Sr., 74, of Anna, was flown by helicopter to Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Illinois State Police have charged Bible, the driver of the Camaro, with failure to secure a child in child restraints, failure to wear a seatbelt, failure to reduce speed, driving on a suspended license and speeding.
