Investigators look for criminal texter, possible victims

ST. FRANCOIS COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - St. Francois County authorities are holding a suspect for allegedly sending unsolicited text messages with sexually explicit pictures.

According to the sheriff's department, the investigation began after the sheriff's office received numerous complaints from victims. Those complaints first started coming into the sheriff's office back in October of last year. The most recent complaint was just Wednesday.

The suspect sent photos to random cell phone number and sometimes followed up with text messages from October 2010 until March 16, 2011.

According to a news release from the sheriff's department, "There is no reason to believe, at this time, that children were targeted, however, due to the unusually large number of messages sent by the suspect, the probability of these messages reaching a child's cell phone appear to be immense."

Investigators continue gathering information in the case and ask anyone who may have received one of these text messages to contact the sheriff's office by calling them at 573-756-3252 or 573-431-2777.

They have not released the name or any other information about the person they already have in custody.
