Murder trial begins for two men in Jackson Co.

JACKSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - A murder trial is under way in southern Illinois for two men accused in a deadly stabbing during a fight in a parking lot in Carbondale.

Proceedings began Tuesday in Jackson County for 25-year-old Trevis Thompson and 28-year-old Patrick Green on charges of murder, aggravated battery and mob action.

Both of the defendants have pleaded not guilty in the November killing of Orlando Clark during a brawl that the Jackson County state's attorney told jurors began with a dispute between Thompson and a woman over money.

Originally, police got a call around 1:30 a.m. of a large crowd fighting on the 100 block of South University, according to Carbondale Police Chief Jody O'Guinn.

34-year-old Orlando Clark of Carbondale died at the hospital, according to police.

Clark's wounds were consistent with knife wounds, according to Chief O'Guinn.

Police haven't found the weapon supposedly used in the killing.
