Technology planning team meets to improve broadband

DEXTER, MO (KFVS) - How good is your internet access?  It can depend on where you live, work or travel.

Members of the Bootheel Regional Technology Planning Team want to improve that connection.

The group held its first meeting Tuesday in Dexter.

Local and state leaders got together to talk about the current status of broadband in the region, any obstacles in place and efforts to improve availability.

"My role here in Dexter is to kick off the regional technology planning teams which is an event that's going to take place across the state where we are trying to organize a local involvement in broadband planning," said Tim Haithcoat, Missouri Geographic Information Officer.

"We have representatives from about 13 different disciplines," said Steve Duke with the Bootheel Regional Planning Commission.  "They will go out and meet with people in their particular sector and they'll do a basically a needs assessment."

That survey information will be sent back to Jefferson City by the middle of April.
