CHAFFEE, MO (KFVS) - Scott Koch and Cheyenne Kathey are Making the Grade, by making music.
These two Chaffee elementary fifth graders composed their very own pieces of music.
Scott and Cheyenne entered their original work into a music contest at the University of Missouri-Columbia and both received honorable mention.
The contest featured more than 100 entries from K-12th graders and both say writing music comes naturally
"It wasn't really that hard and its called wolf cries because my favorite animal is a wolf and I thought I would be cool because it's in the minor key," said Cheyenne.
"I was messing around with the keyboards in the back of the room and we came up and I did something interesting and we started off from there," said Scott.
Music teacher Carrie Cain says both students definitely measure up and says they created their own melody, then she stepped in to help with the chords. Cheyenne says she's excited to enter another piece next year and both students say this won't be the last piece they write.
