PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - A Paducah woman has been arrested after a social worker found the woman's two small children playing on the edge of Old Mayfield Road.
Melissa Knight, 21, of Old Mayfield Rd. was arrested and charged with first degree wonton endangerment.
Knight told police she was still sleeping around 8:40 a.m. because she did not go to bed until 3 or 3:30 a.m. while she was texting and talking on her phone.
Stacey Allbritton called police after she found a 3-year-old and a 4-year-old playing at a curbside in front of her home, according to police.
The temperature was 53 degrees and it was raining while the 3-year-old was in a diaper and a T-shirt and the 4-year-old was only wearing a diaper, according to Robin Newberry with Paducah Police Department.
Officer Brian Kopischke entered the home and found Knight, the children's mother asleep in a bedroom.
Officer Kopischke went into the home and said it was apparent the children had not been supervised for a period of time. All the food in the refrigerator (milk, pudding, eggs, mayonnaise, etc. ) was on the floor in the kitchen and living room.
Knight was arrested and booked into the McCracken Co. Jail while her children were released to a relative, according to police.
