CHAFFEE, MO (KFVS) - Three men were arrested Saturday evening after a string of burglaries in Chaffee.

Jay Anderson, 40, and Charles Fleming, 22, have been charged with five counts of second degree burglary and five counts of stealing.

Ricky Stephens, 17, was charged with four counts of second degree burglary and five counts of stealing.

Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter says the sheriff's office received a tip of two suspicious men walking on Highway RA outside Chaffee Saturday night. A deputy then stopped the men, Fleming and Anderson, and found stolen jewelry on them. The jewelry was reportedly from a nearby home.

"Once I started questioning them they started telling on each other and confessing," said Deputy Jody Chaney.

Chaney further questioned Fleming and Anderson and found out they were accompanied by Stephens in seven residential burglaries in the Chaffee area over the past few weeks.

Misty Cline's home on Highway A was one of the first to be hit back in January.

"We came home to find the back door pried open," said Cline.

"They took my daughter's jewelry and my fiance's gun," she said. "We've felt very insecure."

Walter says searches of the suspects' homes revealed many of the stolen items.

They face charges in connection with seven home burglaries. They remain in the Scott County Jail.

"I've never seen fear grip a community like it did in Chaffee. They don't have a lot of problems there," said Chaney. "They can rest assured tonight."
