CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Crews responded to the scene of a business fire early Sunday morning.
Around 4:30 a.m. the Cape Girardeau Fire Dept. responded to 1157 North Kinsghighway in Cape at the Old Hickory Specialty Meats store.
According to Asst. Fire Chief Mark Hasheider an alarm went off in the building, which alerted police. Fire crews also responded and saw smoke coming out of the building.
According to Hasheider, the fire started in the basement of the building, and the blaze was contained by 5 a.m.
There is fire damage in the basement and significant smoke damage throughout the building.
The meats in the store will have to all be inspected by the health department to see if any of the products will be salvageable.
There is no word on what may have caused the fire and an investigation continues.
