Old town Cape board opposes smoking ban, supports waste water project

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The Board of Directors of Old Town Cape have taken their stance on the smoking ban proposal and waste water treatment project.

The board voted on March 3, 2011 to support the waste water treatment facility project, according to Marla Mills, Executive Director of Old Town Cape, Inc.

The board encouraged the passage of both the 1/4 cent sewer system sales tax and the requested bond issue on the Nov. 5 ballot.

The directors also voted to oppose the proposed smoking ban ordinance over concern for the individual downtown business owners on the April 5 ballot, said Mills.

Earlier this week, the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce voted to oppose the smoking ban proposal and support the waste water treatment facility project.
