Benton, Ill. man arrested on grooming charges

BENTON, IL (KFVS) - A Benton, Ill. man was arrested on Wednesday for grooming charges, according to The United Secret Service Southern Illinois Cyber-crime unit.

Alan G. Odom, 47, of Benton was arrested Wednesday on the state offense of grooming, indecent solicitation of a child, and traveling to meet a minor.

Grooming involves the use of a computer to seduce, elicit, lure or entice a child, a child's guardian, or another person believed by the person to be a child or a child's guardian to commit any sex act.

Indecent solicitation of a child a class one felony, involves soliciting a child, a child's guardian or another person believed by the person to be a child or a child's guardian to commit any sex act.

Traveling to meet a minor a class 3 felony, involves traveling to a location for the purpose of engaging in a sex offense with a child or another person believed by the person to be a child.

The case was investigated locally by members from the Benton Police Dept. and the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.
