CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO  (KFVS) -Does it Work Wednesday is back and brand new for 2011.  This week, a 2-for-1 deal. Two products that could save you a trip to the nail salon, if they work. One promises instant nail growth. Another promises salon-perfect nails with the swipe of "DRY" nail polish.  Denise Kinder of Cape Girardeau helps us test.

"I really like nail polish, but they chip after a day or two," said Kinder.

Like so many of us, Denise hates re-applying nail polish after it seems like she just brushed it on. I've tested similar products before, but now nail giant Sally Hansen gets her hands on the newest version of dry nail polish.

The strips go on like stickers, with no drying time, but Does it Work?

"Well, it came off a bit," noted Denise.

As she gets the hang of it, I try our next Sally Hansen product. The bottle of polish apparently has some sort of ingredient that promises to make my nails grow up to "30% percent longer in just five days."  I've got the measuring tape to prove it. We'll see what happens. Meantime, Denise's perfectly polished nails look a lot better than mine.  Maybe there is something to these sticker-like finger tabs?

"So far so good. They went on fairly easy. I'd feel better if there was a clear coat protector to go over the top," said Denise.

In fact, Denise wore the dry nail polish for more than a week, which is a lot longer than regular nail color.

"It'll be worth it for me, I think."

Not for me.  After the five-days, a few of my nails actually broke!  One broke well past the tip, even causing me pain! So, let's touch up some final grades here.

Sally Hansen's Salon Effects do give you a perfectly polished look, but just take some getting used to when you first apply.

"I'd give it a ‘B," said Denise.

The other product is definitely short of a "miracle.". I can't fail it because I think nail breakage has a lot to do with nutrition and the claim "30% longer" is hard to define, even with a measuring tape.  Still, I'm not a fan of Sally Hansen's Miracle Growth and polish it off with a C minus on this Does it Work test.  I bought both products at Wal-mart in Cape Girardeau. They range in price between $8 and $10.
