Dozens lose jobs as Cape Girardeau Ponderosa abruptly closes

CAPE GIRARDEAU (KFVS) - Dozens of employees were reportedly left without jobs when Cape Girardeau's Ponderosa Steakhouse abruptly closed its doors for good.

According to a person who answered the phone at the restaurant, corporate officials arrived Sunday evening and announced the restaurant was closing effective immediately.  The caller, said workers were given no notice.

No other employees would comment, and no further details were given.

About 250 Ponderosa and Bonanza steak houses are owned and operated by Homestyle Dining, LLC, based in Plano, Texas.  The company emerged from bankruptcy in 2009.

Calls made to Homestyle Dining were not immediately returned.
