An 11 year old Columbus girl wanted to do something special to support the troops fighting overseas, so she wrote a letter to a soldier in Afghanistan. On Father's Day, she found out just how much that simple gesture meant to the sergeant who received it.
(KFVS) - During the week of November 15-19 on the Breakfast Show, we're testing "Old Wives' Tales"on our pregnant morning anchor, Lauren Keith. She and her husband opted not to find out the gender of the baby in order to enjoy the "surprise" on delivery day. KFVS viewers are invited to join in on Lauren's guessing game by heading to the KFVS-TV Facebook page or posting your comments below.
First, we tested the theory of how a woman is "carrying" the baby.
If you are carrying high with a big, round belly, you are having a girl.
If you are carrying low with a smaller belly that sticks straight out, it's a boy.
If you had a smooth pregnancy with no morning sickness, it's a boy.
If you were sick or felt really nauseous during your pregnancy, count on a girl.
People believe if you are craving salty foods while pregnant, you can count on having a boy.
If you crave sweets, fruit, and orange juice, you are having a little girl.
Our tests on Lauren were mixed. She's carrying low with a belly that sticks straight out. She had only one case of morning sickness. She constantly craves lemonade, fruit and sweets. We're calling that "2 out of 3" and are going with a BOY for test 1.
Our next test is the "ring" test. Using a string, hang your wedding ring over your pregnant belly. You are having a girl, if the ring swings back and forth. It's a boy, if it swings in a circle.
Our test on Lauren revealed a boy....TWICE! When we hung a ring over a woman who's not pregnant, the ring did not swing at all.
Our third test is called the "key test." Take any car or door key and simply pick it up. If you picked it up at the top of the key, or the roundest part you'd normally hold to unlock something, you're having a BOY. If you picked it up at the bottom or smallest part of the key, you're going to have a GIRL. If you picked it up in the middle---TWINS! Lauren picked it up on the top indicating she's having a boy.
On our fourth test, we experimented with Drano and a urine sample, as suggested by our viewers. KFVS viewers say this is the most accurate Old Wives' Tales. We'll see. Meantime, here's the suggestion.
The Drano test combines a tablespoon of Drano and urine. If the mixture turns green, it's a girl. If it turns blue, it's a boy.
Lauren's test revealed a boy, once again. However, she said to take the sample outside to mix it with Drano. The mixture almost got explosive! It was "hot" enough to melt the plastic cup containing urine! So, be careful.
Meantime, Lauren and her husband look forward to sharing with Heartland News viewers whether they've had a boy or girl on delivery day, when they find out themselves.
