CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department held a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday morning to mark the end of Arena Park's biggest renovation in more than twenty years.

Since last winter, the city has put up new sports lighting on five ball fields, built new backstops for eight fields, and installed three new electronic scoreboards.

The overhaul cost more than $700,000 and was paid for by a parks and rec tax passed in April 2008.

The parks and recreation department said the tax generates about $4 million per year.
