AmerenUE promises $5 million in energy assistance

ST. LOUIS (AP) - The St. Louis-based utility company AmerenUE is committing $5 million in corporate contributions to help needy customers.

The utility said Monday the commitment will begin with a $1 million matching program for Dollar More, a voluntary customer assistance fund.

Other components of the $5 million commitment will be spelled out later.

Customers participating in Dollar More check a box on their bills. The company adds $1 to each bill, with that dollar going toward energy assistance.

Customers may increase the amount of their donation, and AmerenUE says it will also match increases in contributions.

AmerenUE provides electric and gas service to about 1.2 million Missouri customers in 57 counties.
