CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The "Tour of Duty" run remembers the almost 3,000 people who lost their lives during the arracks on September 11, 2001.

The run is made up of a group of 32 American and Australian firefighters, police officers, and other emergency workers running across the country.

The runners will cover a total of 4,620 miles from start to finish.

They began the run in Los Angeles on August 12 and will arrive at the World Trade Center site the morning of September 11.

Monday, their course brings them right through the Heartland!

They'll be traveling up Interstate 55. Firefighters from Cape Girardeau and Sikeston will escort the runners along part of their route.
