MARION, IL (KFVS) - The crew at Black Diamond Harley Davidson in Marion got on the school supply band wagon in a big way.
On Saturday kids from across Southern Illinois lined up at the dealership for some much needed school supplies.
The Black Diamond folks handed out 1,000 stuffed back packs in a matter of a couple of hours.
"We do a lot of the older kids, we do some scholarships," said Rodney Cabaness co-owner of Black Diamond Harley Davidson. "We hadn't done anything for the younger kids. So we decided to get on board and do something for the younger kids."
The smiles on the kids faces once they had their back packs in hand and looked inside, was worth more than words could say to their parents.
"It means a lot to us with jobs not being readily available right now, and the economy the way it is, you know it's been really hard on us financially. So this meant the world to us today," said Laura Tressler of Ewing.
The kids were just as grateful as their parents were for the much needed school supplies.
"I feel it helps the kids around here, and they're really nice to give us all this stuff. I think it helps everyone who doesn't have the money to buy this themselves," said Jaraesha Matthews of Carterville.
The stylists at Hotheads in Marion also got in on the back to school fun with some free haircuts for the kids.
There was free food and ice cream as well, along with unlimited time in several inflatable's for the kids to enjoy.
