CARBONADLE, IL (KFVS) - A Carbondale man is behind bars after police say he had hundreds of images of child pornography on his computer.

Twenty-one-year-old William Wilson was arrested Thursday night on four counts of possession of child pornography.

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan says that was just one arrest in the first wave of a crackdown on child porn traffickers in the state.

Madigan says Wilson had more than 700 pornographic pictures and movies involving children on his computer.

"The worst of which was a video of a five-year-old girl being raped," Madigan said. "People need to understand when we talk about child pornography; it's not a victimless crime. Every time that image is viewed, the child is victimized again and again."

According to Madigan, investigators have tracked 8,000 computers in the state of Illinois that have downloaded child pornography within the past 30 days.

Illinois has 24,494 registered sex offenders.  Madigan's office says more than 81 percent of them are child sex offenders.

The attorney general says they know who the offenders are, and they will be tracked down and charged for their crimes.

If found convicted, the felony charges are punishable by two to five years in prison.

Wilson bonded out of the Jackson County Jail late Friday afternoon on $250,000 bond.
