STE. GENEVIEVE COUTY, MO (KFVS) - An alligator has been found and rescued in Ste. Genevieve County Wednesday morning.

According to Walter Crawford, the executive director of the World Bird Sanctuary in St. Louis, a team from the sanctuary caught the gator Wednesday morning in a flooded field area near the town of Ste. Genevieve and the Mississippi River.

Crawford says the alligator is about 3 feet long making it a juvenile. He believes it was probably some ones pet and had been abandoned.

As far as Crawford knows the alligator has not caused any problems in the area, other than a lot of rumors.

Wednesday morning the alligator was being transported to the sanctuary in St. Louis to be evaluated by a vet.
