Local college board chair loses battle with cancer

CARTERVILLE, IL (KFVS) - John A. Logan College Board of Trustees Chair, Reverend David Hancock, has died following complications from a brain tumor.

Reverend Hancock died early Friday morning.

Hancock, of Marion, has served as trustee since 2005. He began his time as chairman last year. He also served as chair of the Illinois Community College Trustees Association's Board Leadership council.

Services for Reverend Hancock will be Sunday, August 22nd, at 4 p.m. at the JALC conference center. Visitation begins at noon on Sunday.

Just last month, a room in the conference center was dedicated in his honor. Room F-119 is now named the David Hancock Room.

John A. Logan College President Dr. Robert Mees said Hancock worked tirelessly to promote the college. Dr. Mees said that Hancock's guidance will be missed.

Flags on campus will be flown at half-mast in honor of Hancock.
