Update: Cape police investigate overnight shooting

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Police questioned then released four people suspected in an early morning shooting.

The shooting happened just after 3:00a.m. Sunday morning.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired near the intersection of Bloomfield and Hanover streets.

Cape Police say someone drove by and fired shots at someone who was standing on the sidewalk on the 1000 block of Bloomfield.

Police say a 21-year-old man was shot in the right shoulder.  The victim was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.

Investigators put out a vehicle description to all nearby police agencies and a short time later, Scott County authorities caught up with a vehicle matching the description and took four men into custody.

Police say they gathered evidence from the men and from their car but they did not find a gun.

After presenting the case to the prosecutor's office, it was determined that, at the time, there was not enough evidence to charge anyone in the car with a crime.

All four people were released.

Police are asking anyone with information to call them at 573-335-6621 or at the Crime stoppers line 573-332-0500.
