BENTON, MO (KFVS) - A Cape Girardeau woman already charged with stealing from a Scott County couple in her care is now suspected of stealing from more people.

"We really want to get the word out about this," said Scott County sheriff Rick Walter.

Police arrested Linda Davis of Cape Girardeau last week.  She faces charges in Scott County for felony stealing and exploiting the elderly.

The couple hired Davis in January to care for them.  Walter said a family member soon found several unusual transactions in the couple's bank accounts, which, according to Walter, included forged checks made out to Davis and deposit slips to her personal account. The transactions added up to $70,000.

"This couple in Benton, she (Davis) was able to befriend them and break into their personal accounts in a short amount of time," Walter said.  "If a health care worker is as good as they say they are, they don't need access to your checkbook numbers."

Since Davis' arrest, Walter said a Jackson family has come forward and now police there are looking into that case.

Currently Davis only faces charges in Scott County. She is out on bond.

Walter encourages families with elderly loved ones to be especially in tune with their loved ones' affairs and do background checks on anyone they allow in their homes.
