Interstate 55 re-opened, three injured after crash

NEW MADRID COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Three people were taken to the hospital with injuries after a crash on Interstate 55 near New Madrid Friday afternoon.

The northbound lanes of Interstate 55 were shutdown at the 47 mile marker.  They are now open.

Two pickup trucks and a motorcycle crashed at 12:15 p.m., according to the highway patrol.

The 2000 Dodge driven by 60-year-old Fortino Valdez of Chicago suffered a tire failure and he lost control, overturned and slid into the path of a northbound 2005 Chevy driven by 55-year-old Trent Rhones of Henderson, Tennessee and a motorcycle driven by 50-year-old James Bracey of Portageville.

Rhones was taken to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau with serious injuries.

Samuel Russell, 14, was riding in the 2005 Chevy and was taken to St. Francis Medical Center with minor injuries.
