Nordenia propane leak contained, Highway 177 reopened to traffic

By Heartland News

JACKSON, MO (KFVS) - A portion of Highway 177 near the Nordenia plant in Cape Girardeau County has been reopened to traffic and a propane leak at the pant has been contained.

East County Fire Protection District chief Dwayne Kirchhoff said a Nordenia employee reported the leak around 8:15 p.m.  The leak came from the main tank at the plant, Kirchhoff said, which holds about 30,000 gallons of propane.

Kirchhoff said the leak was apparently caused by a blown seal.

The Fruitland Fire Department assisted in shutting off the tank's main valve, while the Jackson Fire Department remained on standby.
