PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - A McCracken County man was arrested Tuesday and charged with the elderly abuse of his mother.
Artie Scott was charged with knowing exploiting an adult for over $300.
Police say Artie Scott was removed from the Power of Attorney for his 81-year-old mother who was a resident at the Paducah Center for Rehabilitation before Ken Anderson took his place.
Scott was told that the bill for his mother's stay at the center had not been paid, said the sheriff's department.
In a taped interview with police, Scott admitted that he used his mother's cash to make various purchases from Wal-Mart, Sam's Club, Best Buy, Circuit City, and other stores.
Officials say that after talking with Anderson and the center, Scott's mother was in danger of having to leave the center.
The crime is a felony and is punishable by five to ten years. Scott was taken to the McCracken Co. Jail.
