Cops: 12-year-old stole parents’ car, led police on high speed chase

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Police arrested a 12-year-old McCracken County boy accused of stealing his parent's car and leading police on a chase up to 85 miles per hour Sunday morning.

Sheriff deputies received a call from a resident near the Freemont area on Sunday at 11:28 a.m. saying his/her son had stolen their Ford Escort station wagon.

At 12:37 p.m. Deputy Colleen Pennebaker got behind the stolen vehicle near Geibe Road and Husbands Road. The 12-year-old was driving the vehicle, according to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department.

After Pennebaker activated her lights and siren, the juvenile sped up while on Husbands Road and onto John Puryear Drive, reaching speeds up to 85 mph.

The police stopped the chase and shortly after, found the vehicle on Hovecamp Road. They were able to block the vehicle.

The 12-year-old was taken to the juvenile detention center and was charged with numerous offenses.
