Poplar Bluff, MO (KFVS) - What would you do to raise awareness for your favorite cause?
One man is walking across the country by himself.
Mycle Brandy of Newport Beach, California is two thirds of the way through his journey.
For the past three days, he's been walking in southeast Missouri.
But to say he's just walking across the county isn't the story. It's why he's walking.
"The message I'm trying to deliver is to get out and live and not sit and watch TV and to not just sit there, but to go out and do things with your life," Brandy said.
That's his message because in 1988, he almost lost his life to a stroke.
"I was 37 years old," he said. "I couldn't imagine having a stroke."
That was just his first of four strokes.
But Brandy says he's feeling good now and is walking across the country to give hope to stroke patients.
That's something he says his wife thought maybe wasn't a great idea.
"I told her about what I decided to do, and she says that she didn't, but she didn't talk to me for two days," he said.
But now he says she's his biggest fan in a trip that has taken him through California, Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and now Missouri, which he says has been his favorite state to date.
He's walked through eleven pairs of shoes, and says his feet hurt every day.
He says he's thought about quitting, but says the support of the people along the way and his more than 1,300 Facebook friends keep him going.
"What I'm doing is bigger than me. It's much bigger than me," he said.
He says it's been an inspirational trip, not only for the stroke patients he meets, but for him as well.
"I cry when I think about what I'm going to do when I get to Washington D.C.," he said.
Brandy expects to make it to Washington by October.
