NAYLOR, MO (KFVS) - A string of burglaries and property damage in Ripley County has prompted one man to offer a private reward for any information leading to the criminals.
Jim Lepold is offering $1,000 for anyone who can catch the burglars.
Thieves are throwing rocks into homes and waiting to see if anyone comes out, according to the Ripley County Sheriff's Department.
If someone comes outside, they run away.
If not, they know the house is empty, and they go in and burglarize it.
"I heard broken glass and a big bang against the wall so I jumped up, ran outside and didn't see anything at all. Nobody was around," said Lepold, whose truck was broken into on Friday morning.
They broke out the back glass and stole golf clubs, nearly $200 in cash, and other items.
Lepold says the total damage done to his house and truck is more than $1,000.
"I don't know why they would possibly think about doing this. They don't care, they have no remorse whatsoever. It's just a game to them," Lepold said.
The sheriff's department says Lepold isn't the only one who has been hit by these burglars.
Over the past several months, the department says it suspects they could be linked to three or more additional burglaries.
Lepold says he's ready for them to be caught. "I've got to have some help. This has been going on for six months or so or longer."
