Body of teen found in creek identified, name released

PINCKNEYVILLE, IL (KFVS) - The Perry County Sheriff's Department is investigating the body found in a creek Sunday near Pinckneyville as a homicide.

The body is of a 15-year-old runaway girl named Sidnee Stephens of Pinckneyville.

The grandmother of Sidnee Stephens, Mary Ruth Tritschler, says the sheriff's office called the girl's parents mid-Tuesday.

The grandmother says Sidnee was identified by jewelry and the clothing on her body.

A fisherman reported a body floating in the Beaucoup Creek to the Perry County Sheriff's Office at 5 p.m. Sunday.

The caller said he was on Cudgetown Road just south of Pinckneyville at the Beaucoup Creek bridge.

Perry County Coroner Paul Searby pronounced Stephens dead at 5:30 p.m.

Visitation will be at Oak Grove Baptist Church on Saturday, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.

A memorial service will be held at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 7 p.m. A private interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, DuQuoin, IL.

Memorials may be made to the family of Sidnee Stephens.
