CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - More than 5,000 Ameren UE customers in Cape Girardeau were without power Sunday morning due to a transformer failure.
The customers lost power around 10 a.m., said Ameren spokesman Tim Fox.
Fox said the failure affected three substations, but two of those three were running again by 11 a.m. According to the Ameren website, most is back on as of 2:15 p.m.
By 11 a.m. the number of outages in the 63701 ZIP Code was down to 2,435, according to Ameren's website. The number of customers without electricity in the 63703 ZIP Code was at 265.
Fox said the cause of the transformer failure was under investigation.
