MOUNDS, IL (KFVS) - A Friday night business fire in Mounds is now officially an arson investigation according to Mounds Fire Chief Bill Woods.
Woods says the fire marshal believes someone intentionally set fire to the package liquor business that was set to open in a couple of weeks. No one is in police custody, but Woods said investigators do have at least two suspects in mind.
Owner Sandra Clemons said Saturday she did not believe the fire was random.
"It was on purpose," Clemons said. "It's very upsetting to us. We would have been the first black owned liquor store in Mounds here. And we were only about two weeks away from stocking the store and opening the doors."
The family had no insurance on the building and will have to pay all rebuilding costs themselves.
