FRUITLAND, MO (KFVS) - Fire destroyed a barn just outside of Fruitland early Friday morning.

Fire crews were called to the scene just off County Road 439 around 2:00 Friday morning.

When they arrived the barn was blazing. The glow from the fire could be seen for miles around.

A firefighter told us the person who reported the fire lived more than a mile away and called to report an orange glow on the horizon. Firecrews were on the scene for around an hour, according to officials.

Firefighters say no animals were in the barn and no one was injured. New hay, straw bales, and oak lumber were being stored in the barn.

Dean Riley, Fruitland Fire Chief says that it was an older barn and the fire is due to unknown causes.

A firefighter also says there was no electricity connected in the barn. Investigators are still trying to figure out what started the fire but do not think it was suspicious.
