MARION, IL (KFVS) - A Heartland Veteran finally gets his medals for his actions in World War II.

Clifton Skelcher of Marion received several campaign metals Wednesday morning for his service in England, Africa, Italy, France, the South Pacific, and Japan.

Skelcher has some advice for those serving today around the globe.

"To know what there for, to do the best they can, and they are in there for a good thing to protect your country," he said. "Whatever you are in there to do, do it."

The veteran delivered troops and helped to carry the wounded from the beaches of Normandy on D-Day.

He also received the United States Navy Good Conduct Metal, the Silver Star, and a WWII Victory Metal.
