CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - A Clarkton man was sentenced to more than three years behind bars Monday for possessing illegal ammo.
U.S. District Judge Henry Autrey sentenced Mat A. Matney, 38, of N. Lorton St. to 41 months in prison on one count of being a previously convicted felon in possession of ammunition.
Officers searched his property and found thousands of rounds of ammo, including three 100-round drums that fit one of the 18 guns that were in the house.
Police also found more of the suspects ammunition in a storage shed on W. Pierce St.
Investigators also found a pipe-bomb that was deemed safe by agents from the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
The Department of Justice says a prior felon is not allowed to possess guns or ammo.
The case was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Dunklin County Sheriff's Dept. and the Bureau of ATFE.
