HARRISBURG, IL (KFVS) - According to Illinois State Police, Saline County Chief Deputy Todd Fort was arrested early Tuesday morning.
Fort is charged with four counts of criminal sexual assault, Class 1 felony, and four counts of official misconduct, Class 3 felony.
According to the charges, Fort allegedly committed sexual acts with a female between the ages of 13 and 18 years old.
Saline County States Attorney Mike Henshaw also alleges Fort was working and held a position of authority when the alleged sexual acts took place.
Lt. Stan Diggs with ISP says Fort turned himself in at the Saline County Sheriff's Department with his attorney Tuesday morning.
ISP executed a search warrant late Tuesday afternoon at Fort's home.
Diggs says the ISP investigators had been working the case for about the past month.
He says interviews were conducted on Monday from which they gained sufficient evidence to obtain a warrant from Fort's arrest.
Michelle Bounds of Harrisburg says she's shocked to hear of the arrest of the school leader.
The Saline County Sheriff says Fort has worked for the sheriff's department for 21 years. He has been a chief deputy since December 2006.
According to the Harrisburg Community Unit #3 School District board of education vice president Tom DeNeal, Todd Fort is currently the school board president.
At this time, the school board is not commenting on the arrest.
Fort was elected to the school board in 2005. He was elected school board president by his fellow board members in May 2007 and has been president ever since.
As of 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Fort was in the Jackson County Jail on $250,000 bond.
