Lighting cigarette causes head-on crash

WARE, IL (KFVS) - Distracted driving leads to a head-on crash in Union County.

It happened just after 9 p.m. Friday night. According to Illinois State Police, 25-year-old Bernie Quarterman of Anna was lighting a cigarette when his west bound car drifted into the oncoming lane of Route 146 near Dug Hill Road.

Quarterman's car smashed into 24-year-old Kimberly Spurlock's vehicle head on.

Quarterman and Spurlock were taken to a Cape Girardeau hospital for minor and moderate injuries.

Quarterman was cited for improper lane usage.
