FREDERICKTOWN, MO (KFVS) - The coroner says the injuries on the body of a 19-year-old found on the side of a road near Fredericktown are consistent with someone who has been hit by a vehicle.
The body was identified as 19-year-old Douglas Teel.
Madison County Sheriff David Lewis says a passerby called the office at 4 a.m. Thursday reporting a body off of Hwy. 72, two miles west of Fredericktown.
Sheriff David Lewis says deputies were called early Thursday morning about 19-year-old Douglas Teels' body on the side of Highway 72 just west of Fredericktown.
The cause of death is still undetermined, but Lewis says Teel had injuries consistent with someone who had been struck by a vehicle.
He says Teel would have been hard to see so early in the morning.
"The young man was dressed in a black shirt and jeans. He was dark, and it's a black top road. That morning it was very foggy. Real high humidity that morning. And, of course, it's pretty dark out there two miles from town in a rural area. It would be very hard to see," Lewis said.
The sheriff's department is still investigating.
