CARUTHERSVILLE, MO (KFVS) - A Caruthersville man is in the Pemiscot County jail, accused of trying to poison his girlfriend and her two small children.
Police say 19-year-old Larenzo J. Morgan put bleach in ice trays and lemonade because he was angry with the woman.
She and the children became ill after drinking the lemonade. Thursday afternoon, Heartland news learned all five of the children in Stephanie Judon's care have been removed from the home. Police say she never took the two who drank the bleach to see a doctor.
When I spoke with her today, she told me the kids were fine. Judon is not facing charges at this time. Police say they still consider her a victim in this case.
"This was a stupid decision on the suspects behalf," said Chief Chris Riggs, Caruthersville City Marshal. "If he was mad at the momma that's one thing but to try and poison the kids you're taking it to a whole different level."
Chief Riggs says the two children, a 9 year old boy and an 11 year old girl made the discovery. Apparently, the kids were playing outside on Belle Street in Caruthersville and came in for a drink. Right away they knew something was wrong.
Due to the smell, Riggs says they discovered bleach in the ice trays too. Five children live in the home, apparently the father of another child who lives there found out about the attempted poisoning and went after Morgan. That got police involved.
Chief Riggs says Morgan admitted to trying to poison the family.
"All five of the children are in foster care pending further investigation," said Riggs.
Morgan is charged with second-degree domestic assault and endangering the welfare of a child. He is being held without bond.
