Scooter wreck shuts down Highway 25

CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Emergency crews raced to the scene of a serious wreck on Highway 25 in Cape Girardeau County.

The call came in just after 9 p.m. Tuesday.

According to police, the driver of a car crashed into the back of a scooter.  The car ran over the scooter trapping it underneath. The car and scooter then caught fire.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, the driver of the scooter was 47-year-old Louis Smith of Chaffee. He was taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries.

The driver of the car, 22-year-old Audumn Smith was not injured.

Sheriff's deputies shut down Highway 25 in both directions for a short period of time. Officials say they the scooter should have been driven on the highway.
