BELL CITY, MO (KFVS) - People in Bell City say they can't count the number of homes hit by thieves in recent weeks.
"It's been about two and a half weeks since the last theft was reported," said Sheriff Carl Hefner. "We are working constantly trying to solve this and hope to make an arrest soon."
Residents hope authorities can catch who ever is responsible fast. Most reports involve money, jewelry, pills, or coins missing. Often, the crimes happen when someone is on vacation, or after a death.
"Makes you feel violated," said Jim Rampley. "They broke in during the day a few weeks ago. They took some old coins I was saving."
"They took my mother's jewelry," said another man who didn't want to give his name. "I think police are close to catching someone."
"It's pretty much when they know someone's gone," said Rampley.
"You can't go off and leave your home," said Joan Bollinger. "Not this round, but I've had things stolen before. It makes you mad. You have to keep your stuff locked."
Now authorities and victims of theft want everyone to help keep an eye on their neighborhoods and report anything suspicious.
"It would make everyone feel better," said Rampley. "People are not scared, they are just tired of being violated."
Sheriff Hefner encourages anyone who has been a victim or has information to call authorities. Tips can remain anonymous.
