SALINE COUNTY, IL - (KFVS) - What was supposed to be a fun night on four-wheelers ended tragically for 21-year-old Ashlee Smith.
Ashlee and her friends were riding ATV's on GreenHill Road late Friday night when she struck a dog in the middle of the road.
"She was really outgoing and really sweet," said Lacey Woolard about her friend.
Ashlee lost control of the ATV after hitting the animal, flipping the four-wheeler and killing her and the dog.
She was working at We Care Hair Salon in Harrisburg, prior to her death. Ashlee was interning at the salon in order to get her license to cut hair.
"She was just about done, Saturday would have been her last day. And then she would be ready to go take her state exams. She was gifted and really good with people," said Carol Davey.
Saturday was also supposed to be Ashlee's wedding day. But, now it's a day of remembering the girl who could make anyone smile, with her own smile.
"I found out last night about an hour after the crash and I started crying," Lacey said.
"She was beautiful inside and out. And she was very smart. I'll just remember her as being really funny. And a good listener."
"We will remember her every time we do a hair color or any service. She will be remembered," Carol said.
Ashlee was an organ donor, she graduated from Harrisburg High School in 2007.
Her funeral arrangements are pending at this time at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado.
UPDATE: Saline County deputies say a second ATV rider has been arrested for DUI. The rider was on a four-wheeler next to Ashlee Smith at the time of the accident.
The ATV crash is under investigation by the Saline County Sheriff's Department. Authorities are waiting on toxicology reports for Ashlee Smith to learn if alcohol may have been a factor in the accident that killed the 21-year-old.
