EQUALITY, IL (KFVS) - A mining accident in Southern Illinois kills a worker.
It happened at the Willow Lake Mine near Equality, Illinois Friday afternoon.

The Saline County corner says the victim is identified as 61-year-old Thomas Brown of Eddyville, KY.
The victim was apparently run over by a mine car in the under ground mine.

There's no word on how it happened, however mining officials recently singled out Willow Lake as particularly dangerous.
The Mine Safety And Health Administration has fined Peabody Energy, the company that owns the mine, $230,000 for violations at the mine since late 2008.
A spokeswoman with Peabody says the mine has been shut down for a full investigation and that state and federal investigators have been contacted.

The company also issued a statement, saying "A loss like this is felt by all of us.  We mourn the loss of a fellow employee and we express our deepest sympathies to family members and friends."
