Suspect in deadly Cairo shooting makes first court appearance

CAIRO, IL (KFVS) -  A suspect in the deadly Cairo shooting made his first appearance in court Tuesday.

Melvin Hadley, 28, heard the charged against him in court in connection with Thursday's  shooting outside of a bar.

Hadley is being charged with second degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, and aggravated discharge of a firearm.

No word if police are looking for more suspects or any details on how officers tracked Hadley down.

Jeserick Pilgrim, 19, of Mounds was killed in the shooting outside Mary J's Lounge early Thursday morning. Tyron Watson, 30, of Cairo was shot in the leg and is recovering.

Police say they believe the victims knew each other and something outside the club led to the shooting.

A preliminary hearing is set for Tuesday, July 13 at 10 a.m.
