WEST FRANKFORT, IL (KFVS) - Three suspects have been arrested in two Sonic restaurant robberies and some attempted robberies.
Austin Crites, 18, and Dustin Cole, 17, both of Mt. Vernon were taken into custody by Metropolis Police Department on Tuesday morning. They are charged with Attempted Armed Robbery and Possession of Stolen Property and were being held in the Massac County Jail.
Warrants have been issued for Crites and Cole in Perry County charging them with Armed Robbery of the DuQuoin Sonic.
A third suspect in the DuQuoin Sonic Armed Robbery, David Brazell, 18, was arrested in Mt. Vernon by members of the Perry County Task Force on a warrant charging him with Armed Robbery. He was being held at the Perry County Jail with a $200,000 bond.
The armed robberies happened on June 27 in West Frankfort, KY and June 29 in DuQuoin, IL.
In May and June, West Frankfort Police Chief Jeff Tharp says there were attempted robberies in Mt. Vernon, IL and Paducah, KY that were consistent with the method of operation of the robberies at the other restaurants.
The men were under surveillance for a while in rural Jefferson and Marion counties and in Mt. Vernon and Salem, IL. Police say three suspects in a vehicle cased the Sonic in Metropolis on July 5.
Tharp says a majority of the suspects were current or former employees of Sonic, but none of them were employees at the one in West Frankfort.
Tharp says each suspect had knowledge of the closing practices at the stores.
