CHESTER, IL (KFVS) - Fire crews were called to the Subway restaurant in Chester Monday afternoon after a fire broke out.

According to fire chief Mike Lochhead, a delivery truck got tangled in the power lines attached to the building on Swanwick street. It happened around 3:30. That caused the lines to arch, eventually starting the fire.

Chief Lochhead says everyone got out of the building safely. The truck driver had to stay inside the truck until the power company could shut the power off to the lines.

Several departments were called in to help fight the fire: Steeleville, Ellis Grove, and Perryville, Missouri. According to the chief, it took crews about three hours to get the fire under control.

Subway will be closed for quite a while. Chief Lochhead said the building has major damage inside. He added that the building is still structurally sound.

The state fire marshal has been called in to investigate further.
