Suspect in custody after standoff with police

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - A Williamson County man is in custody after a standoff with deputies on Monday afternoon.

According to the sheriff's department, deputies were called to the Cypress Gardens neighborhood for a report of shots fired around 1:00 p.m. The caller told police that 50-year-old Danny Vancil had fired a gun in the neighborhood at least once.

Deputies said as they were responding to the shots fired call, the sheriff's department received a call about domestic battery. According to the department, the suspect in that report was also Vancil.

Deputies said Vancil had battered his daughter before he fired the gun.

Vancil barricaded himself inside his home, according to police. He surrendered to deputies around 3:00 Monday afternoon.

Danny Vancil faces several charged including domestic battery, interfering with reporting of a domestic battery, unlawful use of weapons, and criminal damage to property.
