Scott County house fire turns explosive July 4, 2010 at 11:25 AM CDT - Updated June 20 at 5:25 PM By Arnold Wyrick - bio | email SCOTT COUNTY, MO - (KFVS) - An early morning fire in Scott County sends firefighters and first responders scrambling for safety as bullets fly through the air. Shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday firefighters from Scott County were called to a structure fire on 2205 Highway E. When they arrived the home was consumed by flames and there were explosions coming from inside the home. "He had a gun safe in there, he also had some ammunition in the house," said Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter. "We could hear the rounds going off earlier when we first arrived. So it could've been dangerous." The Scott County Fire Department called out for mutual aide from the Scott City Fire Department and Oran Fire Department. Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly an hour before getting it under control. "He did have a lot of furniture and stuff in the house, it was fully furnished. Right now he's lost everything in the house. But fortunately there was nobody in the residence," Sheriff Walter said. The investigation into what sparked the fire is ongoing. Copyright 2010 KFVS.
