Infant with life threatening injuries, dad arrested for child neglect

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - A Carbondale man was arrested Tuesday afternoon on several charges after his baby was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries.

At 1 p.m. Carbondale police responded to a call at the 1200 block of West Main Street in reference to a report of a medical emergency involving an infant.

Officers learned the infant had been taken to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale for treatment.

Police arrested the father of the infant, David Treece, for child neglect.  Treece was also charged with aggravated battery and criminal damage to property after a dispute in the 400 block of W. Jackson Street at 1:43 p.m.

Treece was taken to the Jackson County Jail.

The infant was later transferred to a St. Louis area hospital for treatment of life threatening injuries.

The baby and another child were both taken into protective custody.

The investigation into this incident is continuing with the assistance of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.
