CAIRO, IL (KFVS) - It was a busy morning for Cairo firefighters. They had their hands full with a fire they are now calling suspicious.
The fire started around 2 a.m. Thursday at a home in the 2000 block of Cedar Street.
Fire Chief John Meyer says when crews arrived the front of the house and the roof were on fire.
Meyer says it took crews about 15 minutes to get the fire under control but firefighters were on the scene for about four hours.
Chief Meyer says the home is vacant and did not have electricity so he is calling the fire suspicious.
A next door neighbor says police woke him up to get him to safety.
Arson investigators are on the scene looking into the fire. The state fire marshall is also investigating.
