KY. joins fattest states in new ranking

By The Associated Press

WASHINGTON, D.C. (AP) - Kentucky has gained, in a literal sense, in an unhealthful ranking among states.

A report issued today shows that more than 30% of people living in the commonwealth are obese.

Louisiana, Oklahoma and Arkansas also rose into the top tier, which also includes Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee and West Virginia.

Mississippi continues its six-year reign as the country's fattest state in the study's yearly rankings, along with the highest rates of physical inactivity and hypertension. The state also has the second highest rate of diabetes.

The report by the Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation indicates efforts to reduce obesity haven't yet matched the magnitude of the problem.

A companion report finds many parents are blind to their children's obesity.
